Aside from cloud uploads, that will also include the ability to purchase music instead of just renting it monthly. Have they fixed that or do they still want to control what you listen to? It's a desktop player for 'Google Music', so no it still does not and probably will never play local audio files. I stopped using Google Music Desktop player a few years ago when they made it so difficult for me to simply listen to my library tunes I had on my system. I hate Apple has to make apps exclusive to their platform and not make it available for Android, Windows or web. You have to download the bloated iTunes application to download anything from the store. I hate to bring up Apple, but they are the opposite of Google and don't believe in web based apps as they don't make web based version of their apps or iTunes store. It actually did make my computer sluggish, quite the opposite of what this article claims. Web apps can do everything a desktop app can. Why are people obsessed with having desktop apps? Is it the comfort of the past? Personally I can't see the point.
And I didn't know that custom themes were available online. I just notice this week that the Google web play seems to be working with my keyboard shortcut keys and the browser does not even need focus!! Yup I do use it on every machine I own. Otherwise it was great for the keyboard shortcuts.
